Our Art Intent
Our Hawkedon artists will make strong progress in art and design. Through carefully planned, sequential untis of work pupils will be able to develop key skills in: drawing, painting, printing and sculpture.
We beleive that high quality lessons will inspire children to think innovatively and develop creativtiy, independence, judgement, critical thinking and self-reflection. Children will be introduced to a wide range of works through a variety of artists, architects and designers throughout history. In addition, they will be able to gain an understanding of the historical and cultural development of art and design.
Understanding of the visual elements of art (line, tone, texture, colour, pattern, shape & sculpture) will be developed through an accessible and engaging curriculum where children have the opportunity to experiment and develop. This will be channeled through a range of mediums such as: paints, inks, pencils, charcoals, textiles and clay. They will also be encouraged to evaluate and reflect on their work, continually making changes and improvements as well as taking risks.
Oracy is a key component of our art curriculum. It provides pupils with the opportunity to deepen their vocabulary and understanding through dialogue with their teachers and peers.
