Supporting SEND at Hawkedon Primary School

Special education needs and disabilities (SEND) can affect a child or young person’s ability to learn.  They can affect their:

    • Academic progress and attainment
    • Behaviour or ability to socialise and make friends
    • Concentration levels
    • Physical ability
    • Ability to understand the world around them and their place in it

At Hawkedon Primary School, we aim to offer an inclusive experience for all children.  All pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which is adapted where necessary to meet the individual needs of the child.  We work in partnership with families and external agencies to provide support for pupils with SEND in the classroom and through a range of additional interventions.  Our focus is always on the development of the whole child: socially, emotionally and academically.

Accessibility

Click here to view our accessibility plan.

The school is accessible to children with mobility difficulties and wheelchair users through the main entrances.  Adaptations to suit individual needs are made when required and as advised by outside agencies.  There are several disabled toilets which are placed in key locations around the school building.

The school has been built with accessibility in mind for both children and adults in line with the Disability Equality Policy.

Local Offer Information

From September 2014 all local authorities must publish in one place information about the services they expect to be available in their area for children and young people 0 - 25 who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.  This is known as the local offer.

The development of a Local Offer is one of a number of changes to the way children and young people with SEND are supported that are part of the Children and Families Act.

The Local Offer will help parents, carers and young people to see clearly the range of services and support that are available in their local area and understand how to access them.

Please click here to access the Hawkedon Local Offer. The Wokingham Local Offer information is here.

If you think that your child may have a special educational need or a disability, please speak to the class teacher.  Additionally, the school Inclusion Manager (Mrs Julie Morley) can be contacted via the school office.
